The Practitioners Guide - Dolby SP NR Frame Alignment Procedure

NOTES:
  1. The meters in the Dolby SP series frame read 0VU when both green LEDs are lit equally.
  2. It is assumed that the console or multi-channel test fixture is properly aligned.
  3. Step 11 assumes that the rack is stuffed with 'SR' cards. Since that step and the following one are for verification only, they will be the same even if the rack is stuffed with 'A' cards.
Step NR Mode Tape Mode Instructions
1 Set the oscillator for 1khz at 0VU.
2 bypass input Verify levels between the console and the tape machine. Adjust the tape machine for unity gain.
3 bypass input /
repro		 Align the tape machine per the studio's standard procedure. Print tones now if necessary.
4 Set the oscillator for 1khz at 0VU.
5 line in /
NR out		 N/A Adjust "From Console" so that the Dolby meters read 0VU.
6 line in /
NR out		 N/A Adjust "To Console" so that the console's meters read 0VU.
7 line in /
NR out		 input Adjust "To Rec" so that the tape machine's meters read 0VU.
8 normal /
NR out		 repro Play the 1khz tone from the reference tape. Adjust "From Rec" so that the Dolby meters read 0VU.
9 normal /
NR out		 sync Individualy switch each tape track to input. Verify that each Dolby channel switches to "REC".
10 Turn the "Set - Up" switch on.
11 normal /
NR out		 sync /
rec		 Verify pink noise on all tape channels (-15VU). Record 1 minute of Dolby noise as part of your project tones.
12 normal /
NR in		 repro Play the Dolby noise from your project tones. The meters on the Dolby channels should read 0VU.
13 Turn the "Set - Up" switch off.
